Smart Data (NIA_NPG_003)

03 July 2017

The project addresses how a DNO can derive business benefit from smart data for existing and for potentially new business processes. In particular it establishes recommendations for data management in terms of i) data requirements (aggregation, resolution, quality, usability); ii) data representation and iii) statistical methods for managing big data.

Case studies specifically look at low voltage design calculations (losses, voltage drops and cable utilisation). It explores how the accuracy of these calculations are affected by the time resolution of the data, the meter aggregation policy for protecting customer privacy, and the associated accuracy of the phasing allocation.

Analysis is based on academic literature and on our own Customer-Led Network revolution trials data, each collected for one year and used in a simple representative LV network model with customers allocated to positions on a simple network. Project outputs are the results of the analysis, key recommendations from these results, and the statistical modelling techniques themselves.”
