NORTHERN POWERGRID PLANS SHORT ROAD CLOSURE AT LANE SIDE, WILSDEN

image worker.jpgNorthern Powergrid, the company responsible for the electricity network that powers everyday life for 8 million customers across 3.9 million homes and businesses in the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, is temporarily closing Lane Side, Wilsden over the weekend of 22/23 January 2022 while it carries out some repairs to the roadway as part of its £30 million investment to improve the reliability and resilience of the electricity network serving Bradford.

The investment work, which started in September 2019, and is due to be completed by the end of 2022 involves excavating in the road to lay a total of 132km (around 82 miles) of new underground electricity cables with a route length of 17km (10.5 miles).

Northern Powergrid’s work at Lane Side involves making some repairs to the carriageway. This work is taking place on the back of work the company carried out last year to repair a damaged culvert that runs underneath the road close to the Ling Bob pub near the roundabout at the junction of Main Street and Haworth Road, Wilsden.

The work is being carried out between 7am on Saturday 22 January and 7pm on Sunday 23 January 2022. Northern Powergrid is not planning to turn of anyone’s power as part of this work and although the road will be closed to passing vehicles there will be 24-hour access for pedestrians and emergency vehicles. The K17 Keighley Jets bus service will follow a short diversion route, but timetables will be unaffected.

A signposted diversion will be in place along Main Street, Harden Lane, Wilsden Road, Long Lane and the B6429 Bingley Road.

Northern Powergrid’s work in the area is now largely completed, although some small works will be carried out over spring/summer to remove equipment associated with the old power network that has now been replaced. Further details will be shared once confirmed.
