FUTURE ENERGY EVENTS AT NORTHERN POWERGRID

30 October 2017

HELP US TO SHAPE OUR ENERGY FUTURE AT THESE UPCOMING EVENTS

November is a particularly busy and exciting month for us in terms of sharing our innovations plans and listening to your suggestions and opinions.

Here is our event guide to help you decide which of the four events you want to attend.

UNLOCKING A SMART ENERGY FUTURE

We are playing an active role in developing a reliable, cost-effective, low-carbon energy system – a smart system built around the needs of our customers. These workshops will guide our transition to a customer led distribution system operator.

Our workshop will feature open debate about key issues; from customer engagement with the future energy system, to network investment, flexibility and losses.

We are seeking ideas from all corners of industry and our customer base to help set our direction for the transition to a Distribution System Operator, and make our approach one that is truly customer-led.

You should plan to attend if you:

- Have an opinion about the distribution system operator (DSO) topic

- Want to help shape our long term plans on DSO

28 November 2017, 10:00 - 13:00, London, Amba Hotel, Charing Cross
24 January 2018, 13:30-16:00, York, Grand Hotel and Spa

ELECTRICITY NETWORK INNOVATION AND COMMUNITY GROUPS

The event will focus on getting you up to speed and actively engaged in energy network innovation. It will give you the opportunity to discuss the future of flexible energy and the role that communities could play in this transition.

We will be on hand to help you learn about new smart technologies and the innovation trials already underway in communities across the country. Participatory workshops will also be run on energy storage, local supply, demand side response, engagement and others.

Communities who have been involved in innovation trials will share their motivations, experiences and lessons learned.

You should plan to attend if you:

  • Want to learn about the electricity distribution networks’ innovation strategy and projects
  • Are considering getting you or your community involved in innovative energy activities

7 November 2017, 10.00 - 15.30, Newcastle

ADAPTING TO NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND MOVING TOWARDS A SMARTER GRID

This session will; present some of the key learnings from our Customer-Led Network Revolution (CLNR) smart grid demonstration project, talk about the development of a smarter grid, and give a snapshot of some of our existing innovation projects that we are hoping will enhance further our understanding of new technologies.

28 November 2017, Leeds, 18:00 - 20:00

You should plan to attend if you:

  • Are interested in learning about the impressive legacy of our CLNR project

A JOINT INNOVATION STRATEGY FOR ELECTRICITY NETWORKS (TRANSMISSION AND DISTRIBUTION)

For the first time in the UK, the electricity transmission and distribution networks are preparing a joint innovation strategy. It will ensure that all the relevant network licencees work together in relation to innovation, which result in coordinated action on priority areas, such as reducing cost to the customer, making our service more reliable and supporting the low-carbon economy.

The strategy will be published in March 2018, and the Energy Networks Association (ENA) is planning to consult on the draft strategy, soon to be released in a series of events.

The workshops have been designed to seek maximum input from stakeholders in shaping the future of network innovation.

You should plan to attend if you:

  • Have an interest in energy systems
  • Want to help shape the innovation priorities for the electricity networks
