BRADFORD INFORMATION VIDEOS LAUNCHED IN ENGLISH AND PUNJABI

26 November 2020

Northern Powergrid has created a series of videos, recorded in both English and Punjabi, to provide customers with information about its £30 million investment to improve the reliability and resilience of the electricity network serving Bradford.

The investment work, which started in September 2019, is ongoing until the end of 2022 and involves excavating in the road to lay a total of 132km (around 82 miles) of new underground electricity cables with a route length of 17km (10.5 miles).

The new videos provide details of the second phase of Northern Powergrid’s work in Bradford which started in August 2020 and runs until the end of 2022. This sees the company working between a major substation in Wilsden and another substation on Canal Road near the city centre and an electricity tower located on King’s Road. It involves digging in the road along sections of Wilsden Road, Haworth Road, Toller Lane, Heaton Park Drive, Heaton Road, Oak Lane, Manningham Lane, Queen’s Road, Station Road, Canal Road and King’s Road.

Featuring local man, Mohammed Amran (who as well as being ward councillor for Heaton is also Customer Liaison Officer for Excalon, Northern Powergrid’s contactor for the Bradford scheme), one video provides answers to the key questions that customers have asked since the scheme started last year and the second video provides specific information about the partial closure of Queen’s Road between Saturday 14 November and Saturday 12 December 2020.

A spokeswoman for the company said: “We’re always looking for new ways of ensuring that local people are not only aware of the work we’re doing in their area, but they understand why it is essential in making sure their lights stay on and that we can continue to power local people’s lives both now and in the future. That’s why we’ve recorded the video in two languages, which is the first time we’ve done this.

“Mohammed, who’s known to many people locally as Manny, is a great ambassador for the scheme, Excalon and Northern Powergrid and I’d urge anyone who has further questions about our work after watching the video to contact him for more information.”

Mohammed Amran, Customer Liaison Officer for Excalon can be contacted by email mohammed.amran@excalon.com or calling 07802 186873. People can also visit northernpowergrid.com/bradford to read the latest updates about the project.
