NORTHERN POWERGRID ANNOUNCES PLANNED CLOSURE OF WESTBOUND LANE OF QUEEN’S ROAD

26 October 2020

Northern Powergrid, the company responsible for the electricity network that powers everyday life for 8 million customers across 3.9 million homes and businesses in the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, has announced plans to close a section of the westbound lane of Queen’s Road (A6177), Bradford as part of its £30 million investment to improve the reliability and resilience of the electricity network serving Bradford.

The investment work, which started in September 2019, will be ongoing until the end of 2022 and involves excavating in the road to lay a total of 132km (around 82 miles) of new underground electricity cables with a route length of 17km (10.5 miles).

This latest section of work sees Northern Powergrid working between a major substation in Wilsden to another substation on Canal Road near the city centre and an electricity tower located on King’s Road. It involves digging in the road along sections of Wilsden Road, Haworth Road, Toller Lane, Heaton Park Drive, Heaton Road, Oak Lane, Manningham Lane, Queen’s Road, Station Road, Canal Road and King’s Road.

As part of this programme, the westbound lane of Queen’s Road will be closed from Saturday 14 November to Saturday 12  December 2020 between the junction of King’s Road and Manningham Lane (A650). A signposted diversion will be in place along King’s Road, Canal Road (A6037), Hamm Strasse (A6181) and Manningham Lane (A650).

There are no plans to turn off anyone’s power as part of this work. Access for emergency vehicles and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times and vehicle access for businesses will be maintained via the eastbound lane of Queen’s Road.

On-road parking outside homes and businesses located on Queen’s Road between Valley Road and Manningham Lane will be suspended and people may be asked to find an alternative place to park for the duration of the work. Northern Powergrid is writing directly to everyone affected with more information.
