NORTHERN POWERGRID CONFIRMS PLANNED WORK FOR DECEMBER AND JANUARY

08 December 2020

Northern Powergrid, the company responsible for the electricity network that powers everyday life for 8 million customers across 3.9 million homes and businesses in the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, has confirmed its full schedule of work in the area for December 2020 and January 2021 as part of its £30 million investment to improve the reliability and resilience of the electricity network serving Bradford.

The investment work, which started in September 2019, is ongoing until the end of 2022 and involves excavating in the road to lay a total of 132km (around 82 miles) of new underground electricity cables with a route length of 17km (10.5 miles).

  • Work is ongoing along Queen’s Road, Manningham until 19 December 2020, with one lane closed between the junction with King’s Road and the junction with Manningham Lane and, throughout January 2021, narrow lanes will be operation on the Queen’s Road rail bridge.
  • From Monday 14 to Thursday 24 December 2020, multi-way traffic lights will replace the existing traffic lights at the junction of Queen’s Road and Manningham Lane while the company works from the top end of Queen’s Road to the other side of Manningham Lane.
  • Work is ongoing along Heaton Park Drive from the junction of Toller Lane to the junction of Branksome Crescent until Wednesday 23 December 2020. Multi-way traffic lights are in operation while this section of work is carried out.
  • From week commencing 4 January until mid to end January 2021, the section of Heaton Park Drive from Branksome Crescent to the junction with Heaton Road will be closed, with a signposted diversion in place along Toller Lane, Leylands Lane, Highgate and Heaton Road.
  • After completing work on Heaton Park Drive, the team will turn the corner onto Heaton Road where work will be ongoing until mid-February. A short section from the junction of Heaton Park Drive to the junction of Parkside Drive will be closed while work takes place. It is hoped that the remainder of Heaton Road can be completed using multi-way traffic lights, although further closures may be required.
  • From week commencing 4 January to Thursday 14 January multi-way traffic lights will be in operation along Manningham Lane as the team works from the junction of Queen’s Road towards Oak Lane.
  • From week commencing January 2021, the lane of Station Road that runs from Canal Road up to Queen’s Road will be closed for up to three weeks, with the other lane remaining open. A signposted diversion will be in place along Canal Road, King’s Road and Queen’s Road.

There are no plans to turn off anyone’s power as part of this work. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times and Northern Powergrid is writing to everyone directly affected with more information.
