Northern Powergrid Linesman, Adrian Farmer, has been keeping busy during the pandemic by helping his son take part in the At Home Superheroes 20km Challenge to raise money for The Pituitary Foundation - a national support and information organisation for pituitary patients, their families, friends and carers.
Adrian helps construct and maintain Northern Powergrid’s overhead power network which delivers electricity to 3.9 million homes and businesses across the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire. His son Christopher has a smaller cerebellum which affects his balance and means he is unable to walk without support, it also affects his speech and motor skills. Christopher has a severe learning disability and has had epilepsy since he was two years old. At home he uses a walker and trike from a company called Quest 88, who contacted his family and asked him to take part in the 20k challenge to raise money for a charity of his choice.
After learning that the husband of Christopher’s professional carer, Fiona, had been diagnosed with a Pituitary Gland Tumour 16 months ago and the charity supporting them has lost lots of donations since the pandemic, Christopher and Adrian wanted to help. They decided to show their support to Fiona and The Pituitary Foundation by choosing the charity as their cause to fund raise for during the challenge.
Adrian Farmer, a Linesman for Northern Powergrid in the North Yorkshire Region, said: “Christopher loves Northern Powergrid and the work we do to keep the lights on for our customers. He especially likes my Unimog vehicle, so we decorated his trike to look just like it. We’ve been totally blown aware by the support and generosity of everyone who has made a donation on Christopher’s behalf to The Pituitary Foundation.”
