NORTHERN POWERGRID’S PLANNED WORK FOR FEBRUARY AND MARCH 2021

03 February 2021

Northern Powergrid, the company responsible for the electricity network that powers everyday life for 8 million customers across 3.9 million homes and businesses in the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, has announced details of its planned work for February and March 2021 as part of its £30 million investment to improve the reliability and resilience of the electricity network serving Bradford.

The investment work, which started in September 2019, will be ongoing until the end of 2022 and involves excavating in the road to lay a total of 132km (around 82 miles) of new underground electricity cables with a route length of 17km (10.5 miles).

This latest section of work sees Northern Powergrid working between a major substation in Wilsden to another substation on Canal Road near the city centre and an electricity tower located on King’s Road. It involves digging in the road along sections of Wilsden Road, Haworth Road, Toller Lane, Heaton Park Drive, Heaton Road, Oak Lane, Manningham Lane, Queen’s Road, Station Road, Canal Road and King’s Road.

The company has announced that the road closure it had to postpone last year along a section of Haworth Road, Sandy Lane (B6144), between Stoney Ridge Avenue and the traffic lights at the junction of Wilsden Road/Cottingley Road /Stony Lane, will now take place from Monday 15 February for up to four weeks in a bid to complete as much of this section of work as possible before schools reopen.  Chellow Dene car park on Haworth Road will be temporarily closed while Northern Powergrid works past its entrance.

A signposted diversion will be in place along Bingley Road (B6269), Cottingley Cliffe Road (B6269) and Cottingley Road (B6146). There will also be changes to the usual route of the 680 bus service between Bradford Interchange and Bingley Station and schools services will also be affected should they start operating again in March. Passengers are advised to visit wymetro.com or call 0113 245 7676 for more information.

Northern Powergrid is also due to start work on Oak Lane, Manningham from the junction of Heaton Road to the junction of Manningham Lane on or around 15 February until the end of February 2021. Then in early March, the company will move onto Manningham Lane, working towards the junction of Queen’s Road. Multi-way traffic lights will be in operation during this work and HGV’s travelling towards Oak Lane from Keighley Road will be unable to turn right onto Oak Lane. A signposted HGV diversion route will be in place along Manningham Lane, Carlisle Road (A6177), Toller Lane, Church Street and Heaton Road.

Dates for the next sections of Northern Powergrid’s investment work in the area are to be announced soon.
